On this day, Feb 4, 1846, your great great grandfather - George Babcock - left Nauvoo, Illinois with the first groups in the exodus to the west. I have no information about the trek (I am still searching). The next information that I have has him in Spanish Fork, Utah where he married his second wife (in succession, not simultaneously) and had five children, one of which was George Henry, your great grandfather. Today we walked the path out of Nauvoo and down to the shores of the Mississippi River where they walked out on to the ice and crossed the river. Looking back you can see the temple sitting high on the hill, just like it did in 1846. It was a cold walk, but one that will be remembered. The picture of the property is where George had a house and a small farm.
